Graeme Lewis, aged 40, of Hawthorn Drive, Wishaw, appeared before Hamilton Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to assaulting his 22-year-old son, causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement. The assault on Lewis’s son took place at his home on May 7 last year. According to Aga Mathieson, the prosecutor, it was acknowledged that Lewis had acted under provocation. Mathieson reported to the court, “His son arrived at the house around 9 pm. An argument ensued, leading to a physical altercation. During the scuffle, the victim fell to the ground, and the accused kicked him in the head, resulting in him losing consciousness. Police were called to the scene, and the victim was hospitalised with a broken jaw and a thumb injury.”

An additional charge that Lewis had bitten his son’s hand was dropped. Lewis also confessed to hitting his mother on the head with a tin of food at her residence on Curlinghaugh Crescent on April 4 the same year. Mathieson stated, “He visited her home around 5.30 pm. She informed him he was unwelcome and requested him to leave. Subsequently, the accused threw a shopping bag at her, with a tin from the bag striking her head, causing a one-inch laceration.”

Sheriff Michael Higgins has postponed Lewis’s sentencing until the following month to allow for background checks and an assessment for electronic monitoring.
