Wishaw MP, Pamela Nash, has expressed her satisfaction as former mineworkers in the Motherwell, Wishaw, and Carluke constituency begin to receive increased payments from the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme. On Friday, November 29, local mineworkers and their families received their first boosted payments, resulting in an average 32% increase in their pensions. This adjustment follows the Labour Government’s decision to rectify a longstanding injustice by transferring £1.5 billion to the pension scheme last month. As a result, approximately 112,000 former mineworkers and their dependents nationwide will witness an average weekly increase of £29 per member in their pensions.
