Airdrie Academy unveils Cafe 175 facility as part of school’s 175th anniversary

Airdrie Academy has recently unveiled its Cafe 175 facility as part of the school’s 175th anniversary celebrations. The cafe, made possible with the support of local businesses, now offers a full barista service for students and staff. The addition of Cafe 175 has brought a new social space for pupils and staff to meet and talk, with the barista team ensuring a smooth operation during morning break and lunchtime.

Head teacher Martin Anderson expressed his delight at the significant sponsorship received from various local businesses, such as Albert Bartlett, Airdrie Taxis, and Level Consultants, which helped kickstart the school barista service. The cafe is equipped with coffee tables and chairs donated by McMillan Task, as well as signage and menus from Hellcat Designs. The profits generated by Cafe 175 will support reordering of stock and contribute to the school fund.

Students involved in the barista training will receive a level 5 SCQF barista qualification, recognising their success in training and customer service. The school’s parent council, staff, and students have all played a crucial role in bringing Cafe 175 to life. The cafe has quickly become a hub for social interaction and a student-run business enterprise within the school.

Mrs Clelland was acknowledged for her exceptional leadership and dedication in turning the concept of Cafe 175 into a reality. The cafe has not only enhanced the school’s facilities but has also provided valuable skills and experiences for the students involved. With the success of Cafe 175, Airdrie Academy looks forward to more exciting initiatives in the future to enrich the school community further.
