A Dumfries festive family favourite returns this weekend

A beloved festive tradition in Dumfries is set to make its return this weekend as the Dumfries Lions Club prepares for their annual Christmas tree sale. For over 35 years, the Lions have been selling Christmas trees to the local community, with funds raised going towards supporting worthy causes in the area.
Despite the challenging December weather, volunteers from the Dumfries Lions Club have been working tirelessly to ensure that the Christmas tree sale can go ahead as planned. Last weekend, families and individuals from Dumfries and Galloway visited the Lions’ base near the Collin bypass to purchase their festive trees, which were then expertly netted by the volunteers.
With some trees still available, the Dumfries Lions Club will be back in action this Saturday, December 7, from 10am to 3pm. The public is encouraged to come out and show their support by purchasing a Christmas tree to help the Lions sell out their remaining stock. The funds raised from the tree sale will be used to support various community organisations and individuals in need, a tradition that has generated around £200,000 for local causes over the years.
To add to the Christmas spirit, the Lions are inviting purchasers of their Christmas trees to share photos of their decorated trees on the Dumfries Lions Club Facebook page. In January, a voting contest will be held, with the winner receiving a voucher for a free tree next year.
The Dumfries Lions Club’s dedication to spreading festive cheer and supporting the community through their Christmas tree sale is a heartwarming example of the holiday spirit in action. By coming together to purchase trees and share in the joy of the season, the local community in Dumfries and Galloway is not only getting into the festive spirit but also making a positive impact on those in need.
In a time when community support and solidarity are more important than ever, the Dumfries Lions Club’s longstanding tradition of selling Christmas trees for a good cause serves as a shining example of the power of giving back during the holiday season. As they continue their annual tree sale, the Lions are not only providing families with a beautiful centerpiece for their festive celebrations but also offering hope and assistance to those who need it most.
