Adventurous Squirrels from Burnside earn their acorns after taking on four-pronged challenge

Young Squirrels at a Scouts group in a Burnside church have achieved a remarkable feat by earning their Acorn Awards. The Acorn Award is the highest achievement a Squirrel can receive, and the youngsters from the 185th Glasgow (Burnside) troop successfully earned theirs by embarking on adventures, assisting their peers, and acquiring new knowledge. The Squirrels undertook a series of challenges to earn badges, which prompted them to explore the world around them, collaborate as a team, grow personally, have thrilling experiences, and step beyond their comfort zones.

The challenges they faced were centred around the themes of Adventure, Self, Environment, and Unity. Additionally, they had to complete two activity badges as part of their journey. Lesleyanne Gibson expressed her pride, stating, “They are the first Squirrels at the 185th Burnside church scout group to receive the acorn award, and we are very proud of them.” The Squirrel section at Burnside Church, which commenced in May 2023, has seen these young boys and girls grow and succeed.

The Squirrels gather on Friday nights at Burnside Church from 6pm to 7pm, offering a platform for children to engage in exciting activities and form lasting friendships. For those interested in joining or learning more about the group, enquiries can be made by emailing 185sql@gmail.com.

This achievement not only reflects the dedication and hard work of the Squirrels but also highlights the importance of fostering a sense of adventure, teamwork, personal development, and pushing beyond one’s limits at a young age. The Burnside Squirrels have exemplified these values and set a shining example for other aspiring Scouts to follow.
