Air traffic control strikes just days before Christmas are expected to lead to travel chaos and delays for festive travellers. Air Advisor, an expert in flight information, has issued a warning that passengers flying with major airlines such as British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2, and Wizz Air might be impacted. The strikes are set to occur in Italy, with Techno Sky employees, responsible for managing air navigation services, planning a 24-hour strike starting from midnight on Sunday, December 15. The strike will affect operations at 45 airports in Italy, including crucial radar systems.

Additionally, air traffic controllers in Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Bergamo Orio al Serio are scheduled to walk out for four hours on the same day, further exacerbating the situation. The strikes are supported by FILT-CGIL and UILT-UIL, two major transport unions in Italy, raising concerns about potential disruptions across the entire flight network. Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor, emphasised the far-reaching impact of such strikes, citing previous instances where similar actions led to mass delays and cancellations affecting tens of thousands of passengers.

Passengers flying to Italy on December 15 are advised to prepare for potential disruptions and to stay informed by downloading their airline’s app and signing up for alerts. In the event of flight delays or cancellations, passengers are encouraged to inquire about the cause from airline staff and keep records for potential compensation claims under EU Regulation 261.
