Annual theme competition takes place at Motherwell Photographic Society

Motherwell Photographic Society recently hosted its annual theme competition, where club members had the opportunity to judge each other’s images in a fun-filled evening. The themes for this year were “Abstract” for digital images and “Reflections” for prints, offering a diverse selection for members to choose from.

After a round of member voting, a three-way tie for first place in the print section led to Rodger Shearer’s print “The Old Master” ultimately taking the top spot. In the digital image section, Dominic Smith claimed first place with his image “Fluid Motion” after a four-way tie. Both winners will choose the themes for next year’s competition.

The overall winner of the night was Rodger Shearer, whose print received the highest score. He will be awarded the Fergus Smith Memorial Trophy at the annual awards evening in April. In addition to the internal competition, club members also had the opportunity to view the Glasgow District Photographic Union’s 2024 Image Portfolio Colour Section.

Looking ahead, the next meeting at Motherwell Photographic Society will feature Gavin Forrest from Carluke Camera Club as the guest judge for the second digital image competition of the season. The society welcomes anyone with an interest in photography, regardless of experience level, to join their Thursday evening meetings at Holytown Community Centre.

The annual membership fee for the society is £30, with a weekly fee of £2 for meetings that includes refreshments. The club provides a welcoming space for photography enthusiasts to learn, share, and enjoy the art of photography together.
