Award for Perthshire stalwart of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA)

Mike Beale, a founder of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) based in Perthshire, has recently been awarded the prestigious title of “Trustee Of The Year” in the Air Ambulances UK Awards of Excellence. Beale, a former headteacher of Perth’s Craigclowan School, has been an integral part of SCAA since its inception in 2013 as one of the charity’s founding trustees. The award recognises his unwavering dedication to the growth and development of Scotland’s only charity-funded air ambulance service.
During the awards ceremony in Coventry, Beale was commended for his exemplary leadership following the sudden passing of founding chairman John Bullough. As the Interim Chair of SCAA, Beale displayed strength and compassion, ensuring that fundraising and operations continued seamlessly while nurturing the Board’s strategic vision. The judges praised Beale for his instrumental role in shaping the charity from its early days, leading sub-committees, and preparing the organisation for future success.
Upon receiving the award, Beale expressed his gratitude, especially appreciating the recognition from his peers within the air ambulance community. He credited his fellow trustees, past and present, as well as the dedicated staff at SCAA for their collective efforts in ensuring that no one in Scotland should perish due to the unavailability of timely assistance. Beale, who served as Interim Chair for a period of adaptation and growth, handed over the reins to new chairman Robbie Brown in September, emphasising the importance of continuous innovation and improvement in the service of patient care.
In his reflections on the award, Beale highlighted the evolving nature of SCAA and the importance of looking towards the future with optimism. His ultimate goal is the success and satisfaction of all involved with the charity. His legacy, shaped by years of commitment and leadership, will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on pre-hospital emergency care in Scotland.
Mike Beale’s recognition as Trustee Of The Year serves as a testament to his dedication and the remarkable achievements of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance under his guidance. His passion for the charitable cause and commitment to excellence have set a high standard for the organisation as it continues its vital work in saving lives across Scotland.
