Award-winning Photographer Shares Insights at Motherwell Photo Society

Renowned photographer, George Robertson, recently graced the Motherwell Photographic Society with his presence as a guest speaker. George, a member of the Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club and the Scottish Photographic Circle, is celebrated for his exceptional work and was just awarded the Mountain Photo of the Year 2024 for a stunning image captured on the Isle of Skye.

During the event, George captivated the audience with a presentation titled ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro – Trekking on Africa’s Highest Mountain’. As an experienced international mountain leader, George has led numerous treks to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, each expedition lasting between six to seven days.

The presentation began with striking images of the local villages and inhabitants at the mountain’s base, showcasing the vibrant community surrounding this iconic landmark. Attendees were then treated to a visual journey through the various stages of the climb, from the lush rainforest to the desolate alpine desert, culminating in the awe-inspiring summit zone.

Sharing his expertise, George shed light on the intricate logistics involved in safely guiding a large group of climbers to the mountain’s zenith and back. The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, where members had the opportunity to delve deeper into George’s photography techniques and expedition experiences.

The Motherwell Photographic Society continues to foster a vibrant community of photography enthusiasts, with upcoming events including the judging of a print competition and future presentations by esteemed photographers. Club vice-president, Rodger Shearer, expressed gratitude to George Robertson for his enlightening and visually captivating presentation, enriching the society’s collective passion for photography.

For those eager to participate in the society’s activities, meetings are scheduled on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm at the Holytown Community Centre. The society welcomes both seasoned photographers and beginners, providing a supportive environment for enthusiasts to learn, share, and grow their photography skills.
