Balfron gets into the festive spirit as village switches on Christmas lights

Balfron Embraces the Festive Season with Christmas Lights Switch-On
The village of Balfron was filled with festive cheer as locals gathered to witness the official switch-on of the Christmas lights. The event, which took place on Sunday, saw residents Lachlan Cameron and Isabel Mitchell illuminate the tree at Tontine Corner, opposite the Co-op. The occasion was accompanied by Christmas carols and delicious seasonal food, setting the perfect atmosphere for the holiday season.
The Balfron Community Council expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the festive event. Special thanks were given to Dougie and the Christmas Tree Farm in Buchlyvie for donating and delivering the large trees for the village. Volunteers from Balfron Festive-ALL were also acknowledged for decorating Buchanan Street with festive lights and installing the Christmas trees. Particularly noted was Robert Reid, who has been involved in the Christmas tree preparations for the past 15 years.
Additionally, the community grant provided by Stirling Council to purchase new lights for the Tontine Christmas tree was appreciated. Balfron Primary School students were recognised for creating thank you cards and performing Christmas songs at the switch-on event. Contributions from local businesses, such as Co-op providing chocolates and mince pies, Dance Central Balfron with a dance performance, and the efforts of various volunteers, were all crucial in making the festivities a success.
Balfron High School is set to continue the Christmas celebrations with a Christmas Fair on Friday, featuring live music, stalls, a Santa postbox, and more. The fair promises a fun-filled day with activities for all, including hot drinks served by student baristas.
As Balfron lights up for the holidays, the community’s spirit shines bright, bringing joy and warmth to residents as they come together to celebrate this special time of year.
