Bereavement support charity pulled suicidal Cambuslang mum back from a ‘very dark place’

A bereavement support charity has been credited with saving the life of a suicidal mother from Cambuslang who was struggling to cope with the death of both her parents. Wendy Chambers, a 44-year-old mum-of-one, tragically lost her dad Dougie Chambers and her mum Janice Milligan within a short span of 10 weeks in 2020 during the Covid pandemic. Amidst her deep grief, Wendy found herself in a very dark place, battling suicidal thoughts.

In a heartfelt video shared by Cruse Scotland, the charity that offered her free bereavement support, Wendy bravely opens up about her journey through grief and how the charity’s intervention helped her overcome the immense emotional turmoil. Wendy had initially coped by keeping herself excessively busy, but after two years, the weight of her unresolved grief almost drove her to take her own life. It was then that she reached out to Cruse Scotland for face-to-face counselling support.

With Christmas being a particularly poignant time for those dealing with loss, Wendy chose to share her story to raise awareness about the essential bereavement support services available to individuals struggling with bereavement. Fiona Arnott-Barron, CEO of Cruse Scotland, highlighted the alarming reality that Wendy’s experience is not uncommon, emphasizing the crucial need for ongoing funds to provide support to individuals in similar distress.

Wendy’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role that charities like Cruse Scotland play in offering a lifeline to those in the depths of grief and despair. Through Wendy’s courage in sharing her personal journey and the invaluable support provided by Cruse Scotland, she hopes to inspire others to seek help when needed and to contribute towards ensuring these vital services remain accessible to all who require them.
