Biggar Named as Happiest Place in Lanarkshire
Biggar and Lanark have been declared the top two “happiest places to live” in Lanarkshire, as per a survey conducted by an online furniture retailer. The South Lanarkshire locations received high scores in the poll by Furniturebox, which assessed the availability of good schools, affordable housing, quality pubs, restaurants, shops, cultural attractions, as well as the beauty and green spaces in the areas. Biggar even secured a place in the top 50 across the UK and was ranked as the fourth happiest location in Scotland, following Aboyne, Newton Mearns, and Kinross. Lanark was positioned second in Lanarkshire in the Furniturebox survey of 5000 individuals, alongside judging panels in “each big city and county including Lanarkshire”. Following Biggar and Lanark, Hamilton, East Kilbride, and Blantyre were also listed in the rankings.
Biggar was praised as “a popular market town with a vibrant arts community”, highlighting its annual Biggar Little Festival and Hogmanay bonfire, and described as “South Lanarkshire’s gateway to the Borders”. A Furniturebox spokesperson commented on the survey results, stating that all 70 places on the list were deserving winners and showcased why the UK is such a fantastic place to live, enjoyed by visitors from around the globe. The survey emphasised that the happiest places are characterised by the quality of life within them.
