Boy, 13, charged after Bonfire Night rampage sees £20,000 worth of cars smashed


A 13-year-old boy has been charged in connection with vandalism that resulted in £20,000 worth of cars being damaged in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night. Police confirmed the teenager had been charged after vehicles at Macklin Motors car dealership on Calder Road were smashed up. He is set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 10. In addition to the boy, a 38-year-old man was also charged on November 7 following an incident where fireworks were set off on Bonfire Night in Dunsire House North. He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, December 5. Furthermore, a 40-year-old man was charged after a car was stopped amongst a group of young people, who then took possession of fireworks from inside the vehicle. These fireworks were then used to cause disorder and antisocial behaviour in the Gracemount area of the city. The man is scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 10.

Detective Chief Inspector George Calder from Edinburgh CID expressed, “We made it clear following the disorder that put our communities in a state of alarm on Bonfire Night, that we would be relentless in our pursuit of those responsible and these arrests are just the first of many, as we continue to pursue various positive lines of inquiry.” He continued, “The public still have a vital role to play in helping us identify everyone involved in the criminality that took place on November 5 by providing us with photographic or video evidence via our Major Incident Public Portal.” He urged individuals to submit their footage to https://mipp.police.uk/operation/SCOT24S16-PO1.
