Brian Cox to spend as ‘much time’ in UK as possible after Trump wins US election

Scottish actor Brian Cox has expressed his intention to spend as much time as possible in the UK following the results of the US presidential election. The 78-year-old star of Succession has been vocal about his views on President-elect Donald Trump, calling him a “monster” during his appearance on Channel 4’s live coverage of the US election. Cox shared his thoughts with the Guardian, where he remarked, “No, it doesn’t make me lose faith in people. It just makes me realise people are stupid. We’re in for a pretty rough old four years coming up.”

Regarding his stay in the US, Cox mentioned, “I don’t know. I’ve got to because my sons are there. But I’ll try to spend as much time here (UK) as I can.” Donald Trump is set to assume office on Inauguration Day on January 20, 2025. Reflecting on his past experiences at drama school in London, Cox reminisced about the welcoming atmosphere of the 60s, a time of social mobility where he felt liberated and celebrated for who he was.

Cox expressed his love for London as a symbol of freedom, saying, “I loved the sense that I was allowed to be who I was and celebrated for coming from my class.” When asked if he believes he would have the same opportunities today considering his background, he responded, “No, I wouldn’t. The conditions are so different now.” Despite his concerns about the political landscape, Cox continues to pursue his acting career, voicing a character in the new anime Lord Of The Rings film and preparing to star in the play The Score at Theatre Royal Haymarket, London, from February.

In summary, Brian Cox’s decision to spend more time in the UK post-US election reflects his concerns about the future political climate. His reflections on societal changes and personal experiences offer insights into his views on current social dynamics and his enduring passion for acting. Cox’s commitment to his career amidst evolving challenges underscores his resilience and dedication to his craft.
