Brit man was in drunk bust-up on holiday before plunging to his death

A British man, Ben Crook, was escorted off a plane after a drunken altercation with his partner before tragically falling to his death, as revealed in an inquest. The 32-year-old had been drinking prior to the flight to Turkey for a family birthday celebration and continued to consume alcohol on the plane. An argument ensued with his partner during the flight, leading to security escorting him off the plane after he broke both of their phones, making him unreachable. Ben was last seen in Kaleiçi, Antalya, where he disappeared, prompting a search operation. His body was discovered on September 24, which coincidentally was his birthday, at the bottom of a drop about 0.6 miles away from where his partner and her two children were staying.

Following the tragic incident, a post-mortem examination was carried out in Turkey, with results pending. Ben’s father flew to Turkey to identify his son before his body was repatriated to Wales for a second post-mortem, revealing injuries consistent with a fall from a height. The inquest has been adjourned for a full hearing scheduled for April 17 the following year. The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed they are supporting Ben’s family and liaising with local authorities. A fundraising appeal has been successful in raising almost £14,000 in Ben’s memory, describing him as a character with a cheerful personality and a great sense of humour.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Ben Crook’s death serve as a reminder of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and the importance of responsible behaviour, especially in unfamiliar environments. The support shown by the community through the fundraising appeal highlights the impact of such incidents on loved ones left behind. It is imperative for travellers to exercise caution and moderation, particularly when consuming alcohol, to ensure their safety and the well-being of those around them. May Ben Crook’s memory live on through the cherished moments he shared with his family and friends.
