Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow was cordoned off for several hours while bomb disposal experts assessed the situation on Wednesday. Three men have been released without charge following the discovery of a “suspicious item” in Glasgow.

Emergency services arrived at the scene in the city centre around 1.10pm after a report of a potential suspicious item at the station. The bomb squad was contacted, leading to a controlled explosion late Wednesday night. Fortunately, it was confirmed that nothing suspicious was found.

Initially, three men were arrested in connection with “possession of offensive weapons,” but they have all been released without charge, according to Police Scotland. Superintendent Derrick Johnston mentioned that the report was treated as a credible threat, leading to the closure of the surrounding area as a precautionary measure.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out the controlled explosion after evaluating the impact on nearby gas mains and train lines. The item was determined to be innocent, posing no risk to the public. The area was reopened by 9.45pm, and Johnston expressed gratitude to the public for their patience.

The bus station, along with nearby buildings such as Glasgow Caledonian University, was evacuated during the incident. A section of the M8 motorway was also closed temporarily. Trains at Queen Street were halted while the situation was under control at the bus station.
