Cambuslang man and his pals are all heart as they brave the freezing cold for charity swim


A Cambuslang man and his friends braved the freezing cold waters at Prestwick beach to take on a charity swim in support of the British Heart Foundation. David Lloyd, 63, along with his granddaughter Jamie-Leigh McNeillie and pals, took on the challenge to raise funds for the charity. Jamie-Leigh, who was born premature and diagnosed with absent pulmonary valve syndrome, has undergone multiple surgeries since she was a baby, including open-heart surgery to replace the absent pulmonary valve.

David decided to take on the challenge of cold water swimming to raise money for the charity close to his heart. Despite the challenging weather conditions and freezing temperatures, David and his friends, Stevie Gallagher, Tony Beattie, Peter Finnegan, and Mark Finnegan, plunged into the cold water wearing pink swim shorts as a nod to Jamie-Leigh. The group faced the shock of the cold water but emerged feeling accomplished and proud of their efforts.

The fundraiser initially set a target of £300 but has now raised almost £2,000 through physical and online donations via a JustGiving page.
