Care award for Dumfriesshire cottage hospital

Care Award Presented to Dumfriesshire Cottage Hospital

Lochmaben Cottage Hospital in Dumfriesshire has recently been honoured for its exceptional care provided to patients. Senior charge nurse, Judith Milligan, expressed the staff’s delight upon receiving the Level 3 Silver Care Assurance Award. This recognition comes after a series of surprise inspections, highlighting the dedication of the hospital’s multidisciplinary team in delivering top-quality care consistently over the past four years. Judith commended the team’s efforts in maintaining high standards, particularly in the area of rehabilitation.

Among the few community hospitals in the region, Lochmaben Hospital stands out following the decision by Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership not to reopen other facilities for inpatient care. South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth commended the staff’s commitment to providing outstanding care, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding remaining community hospitals in light of recent closures.

The Excellence in Care framework, a national initiative aimed at enhancing nursing and midwifery services across Scotland’s public sector, seeks to ensure a consistent standard of high-quality care accessible to all individuals receiving NHS services in the country.

In these challenging times for healthcare facilities, Lochmaben Cottage Hospital’s recognition serves as a beacon of excellence and dedication in patient care. The commitment shown by the hospital staff in upholding exceptional standards despite operational challenges is truly commendable. Recognising and celebrating healthcare providers’ achievements is integral to motivating and sustaining high levels of care delivery within the community. Lochmaben’s achievement underscores the significance of supporting and valuing local healthcare services for the well-being of all individuals in the region.
