Care home in Rutherglen hosts annual Remembrance service for residents

Rutherglen Care Home recently hosted its annual Remembrance Day Service at Waverley House, where residents gathered to honour those who had served in the Armed Forces. The service, held on Saturday, November 9, saw British Legion Branch Chairman Mick Gethan and Area Vice Chairman Stewart Walker in attendance. Representatives from the Glasgow & Lanarkshire Battalion of Army Cadets from Cambuslang also joined the event.
Family members, staff, and residents participated in the service, which was led by Rev. Neil Watson from Stonelaw Church. Together, they expressed a mix of sadness and pride as they remembered and paid tribute to the sacrifice made by those who served their country. The presence of the Army Cadets added a special touch to the solemn occasion.
Activity coordinator Maureen Thomson expressed gratitude to the British Legion, Army Cadets, and Rev. Watson for taking the time to commemorate with the care home community. One resident, 96-year-old Isa Daniels, shared her appreciation for the service, describing it as “lovely.”
The service provided an opportunity for the residents to join together with the broader community in reflection and remembrance. It was a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and courage of those who have served in the Armed Forces. The event highlighted the importance of honouring and remembering the sacrifices made by individuals in service of their country.
