The daughter of a Celtic icon who scored 109 goals in 245 appearances has raised £25k for a cancer charity to fulfil her father’s dying wish. Jenny Kane, daughter of Celtic legend Frank McGarvey, has been dedicated to raising awareness for pancreatic cancer, the illness that took her father’s life on New Year’s Day last year. McGarvey, a beloved hero of the Celtic Park, started experiencing severe pain in 2022 and visited doctors multiple times without a proper diagnosis. It wasn’t until a CT scan that the deadly cancer was identified, after suffering chest pains, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Jenny shared her frustration at the misdiagnosis and delayed treatment, highlighting the need for increased awareness of pancreatic cancer, known for its low survival rate and often missed symptoms.

With a significant fundraising effort in honour of her late father, Jenny teamed up with Pancreatic Cancer Action Scotland to raise £25,000 for World Pancreatic Cancer Day. The goal is to support early diagnosis and raise awareness to prevent others from experiencing the same challenges her father faced. The funds raised have brought comfort to the McGarvey family and contributed to the crucial work of the charity in improving early detection and understanding of pancreatic cancer.
