Community safety team to host final event of the year at Rutherglen shopping centre

The Rutherglen Community Safety Awareness team is gearing up for their last event of the year at the Rutherglen Exchange Shopping Centre on Tuesday, November 26. The team, led by organiser Barry Cathie, aims to provide valuable information on topics such as home fire safety while also offering free giveaways to attendees between 10am and 1pm. Cathie initiated the community safety team to address issues like antisocial behaviour, protect the elderly and vulnerable from scammers, and engage the community in crime prevention efforts.

The team collaborates with various partners including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, South Lanarkshire Council’s Trading Standards, and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland. They encourage residents to join Neighbourhood Watch programs and report any criminal activities to enhance community safety. The events serve as a platform for people to interact with the safety team, seek advice, and find reassurance that support is readily available when needed.

In addition to practical guidance on safety measures, the team also promotes community engagement and unity. The upcoming event at Rutherglen Exchange is expected to be a proactive effort towards building a safer and more vigilant neighbourhood. The team expresses gratitude to Jane Cowan, the shopping centre manager, for her continuous support and hospitality in hosting the events.

Looking ahead, the community safety team plans to announce new event dates for the upcoming year, continuing their mission to empower residents with knowledge and resources to keep their community secure. The event serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant, informed, and united in the effort to maintain a safe living environment for all.
