Councillors unanimously refuse planning application for new hot food takeaway in Coatbridge

Councillors in Coatbridge have unanimously rejected a planning application for a new hot food takeaway in Earlston Crescent. The decision was made by North Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee after agreeing with recommendations from planning officers that the proposed takeaway would bring additional disturbance and activity to a residential area, impacting road safety and amenity.
The planning committee highlighted concerns that the proposal to create three new parking spaces for the business was inadequate given the type of business and their distance from the premises. This could lead customers to park in limited spaces in front of the shop, causing further issues for residents. These concerns were echoed in a consultation response from the local authority’s traffic department, which recommended refusing the application. Additionally, six residents also objected to the proposal.
The application was refused without the need for further discussion or questions from committee members. The unanimous decision reflects the shared understanding of the potential negative impact the hot food takeaway could have on the local community in Coatbridge.
Local residents and authorities have shown a unified front in prioritising the well-being and safety of the neighbourhood, highlighting the importance of thoughtful urban planning and community engagement in shaping local environments. This decision serves as a reminder of the significant role that local councils play in promoting sustainable and harmonious development within residential areas.
