Crisps fan tries £10 Walkers’ advent calendar and spots glaring issue

A crisps enthusiast has recently tried out the £10 Walkers’ advent calendar and highlighted a major flaw in the product. With the festive season approaching, many are on the lookout for unique advent calendars to mark the countdown to Christmas. Traditionally, advent calendars have been associated with chocolates, toys or illustrations hidden behind cardboard doors, providing a daily treat from December 1st onwards. However, in recent years, brands have introduced more upscale versions of advent calendars featuring a variety of items ranging from beauty products and alcohol to candles.

One prominent snack brand, Walkers, has introduced its own advent calendar, which has sparked controversy. A popular TikTok account, UK Newest Foods, is currently reviewing various 2024 advent calendars leading up to December 1st, offering unfiltered opinions on the offerings from major brands this Christmas. In a recent video review, the content creators delved into the Walkers crisps advent calendar priced at £10, purchased from Iceland, and did not mince words in their assessment.

The video showcased the advent calendar with all 24 packets of crisps revealed. The reviewers expressed disappointment in the limited selection of flavours, including Ready Salted, Prawn Cocktail, Cheese & Onion, and Salt & Vinegar, out of the many varieties Walkers offers. They criticised the pricing of the calendar, noting that a box of 20 Walkers crisps is currently priced at £3.50 in Asda, suggesting that the advent calendar should ideally cost around £5 to £7.50, given its novelty value. The reviewers also lamented the poor quality of the calendar, highlighting the difficulty in opening its doors without ripping them.

Fellow TikTok users chimed in with their opinions, suggesting that Walkers could have incorporated more diverse flavours or that consumers could simply purchase larger packs of crisps for a similar experience. The general sentiment was disappointment with the limited variety and high price of the Walkers advent calendar, questioning its value for money in comparison to simply buying packs of crisps separately.

In response to the feedback, Walkers has been asked for a comment on the criticisms raised regarding their advent calendar. As the festive season progresses, it remains to be seen how consumers will weigh the appeal of novelty advent calendars against their practicality and value for money.
