Dalbeattie High School receive Silver UNICEF UK Right Respecting School Award


Dalbeattie High School in Scotland has been honoured with the prestigious Silver UNICEF UK Right Respecting School Award. The school community collaborated to gather evidence towards three main outcomes: teaching and learning about rights, teaching and learning through rights, and being ambassadors for the rights of others.

The evidence presented included various initiatives such as creating a new school vision, values, and aims, designing a school charter, incorporating pupil voice, running a daily breakfast club supervised by seniors, offering a range of extracurricular activities, organizing trips, celebration evenings, and assemblies, among other efforts.

A group of students from S1-S6 engaged with assessors to share their experiences of the journey that commenced in September 2021, impressing the assessors with their knowledge, maturity, articulacy, and positive attitude. Feedback from the assessors praised Dalbeattie High School for its strong relationships, robust pupil voice, and multitude of positive experiences for all students.

The assessors’ report highlighted the school’s commitment to inclusivity and value for all individuals, as well as the ample opportunities provided for students to have their voices heard and engage in leadership roles. The school is now aiming towards achieving the Gold award in the future.
