Dangerous dog bit off Scots pizza delivery driver’s ear in sickening attack

A horrific attack by a dangerous dog left a Scots pizza delivery driver without a significant part of his ear in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire. The incident, which occurred on March 22, 2023, involved Derek Marshall’s pet, an English Bull Terrier named Bolo. The dog dragged the delivery driver to the ground and attempted to bite him on the throat, resulting in Mr Ghani losing a portion of his ear and needing plastic surgery. Three months later, Bolo attacked another person, Angela Thomson, causing multiple injuries including a fragment of the dog’s tooth embedded in her leg.

Marshall, a first-time offender aged 55, pleaded guilty to owning a dangerously out-of-control dog, named Bolo, at Glasgow Sheriff Court. The attack on Mr Ghani took place in Marshall’s shared garden after the victim unsuccessfully tried to deter the aggressive dog. Despite efforts to fend off Bolo, Mr Ghani suffered bites to his left forearm and a significant part of his right ear was bitten off, leading to profuse bleeding and the need for plastic surgery.

In a separate incident in June, Bolo attacked Angela Thomson when she approached Marshall’s residence for a cigarette lighter. The dog bit her multiple times, causing injuries to her hand, leg, and calf area, requiring three reconstructive surgeries. Marshall intervened in both attacks and took Bolo back indoors. Despite defending Bolo as his sole companion in life, Marshall was found guilty of owning a dangerous dog and awaits sentencing after bail was granted.

The court case shed light on the severity of the attacks and the injuries sustained by the victims. Marshall’s emotional state and attachment to his dog were also highlighted during the proceedings. As the matter progresses, the community awaits further developments in ensuring justice for the victims and accountability for the dog owner.

In summary, a disturbing incident involving a dangerous dog named Bolo resulted in severe injuries to two individuals in separate attacks. The legal proceedings underscore the importance of responsible pet ownership and the consequences of failing to control aggressive animals. The victims’ traumatic experiences serve as a reminder of the need for stringent measures to prevent such attacks and protect the safety of the public.
