Dog Rings The Doorbell To Get Back Home After Escaping

Could this little pupper be any more adorable? The short answer is no, he couldn’t. Dog dad Greg Basel decided to share this funny video on social media after his 3-month-old golden retriever Marshall rang the doorbell to get back inside. It seems that Marshall’s a bit of an escape artist, and opted for a neighborhood stroll one night. But when it was time to go back inside, it made more sense to just ring the bell like everyone else. Smart boy, right? And that face! It could melt even the coldest of hearts. We give Marshall Basel a 13/10.

Doorbell Cameras In The News

Stories like these have been popping up lately, thanks to the proliferation of home security products like doorbell cameras. These allow you to see who is at your door even if you’re not home, by accessing the camera from your smartphone. But there’s a lot more than “just seeing who’s at the door” going on. These nifty devices have been capturing all kinds of things in their view, from parcel thieves to meteors and even possible kidnappings. (2, 3, 4) They’re pretty handy for lots of things, not the least of which is helping doggo get back in the house. Chika the Labrador mix had her 15 minutes of fame too, in October 2019 when she had to remind her sleeping family that she was still outside.  (5) //players.brightcove.net/4137224153001/ed38fae1-4db1-4308-8095-399a04010bc1_default/index.html?videoId=6099512584001

Ring The Doorbell: A Handy Trick

This is such a cute example of our furry friends continuing to evolve and grow alongside us. As our toys and devices become more sophisticated, they are right there watching and learning. These smart pups are naturally doing what many owners train their dogs to do: ring a bell when they want something. This is a handy way for your dog to communicate that they need to go outside, so a lot of owners tie a bell on a string and attach it to the doorknob. When doggo’s gotta go, he simply boops the bell with his nose, alerting his faithful human companion that nature is calling. It’s kind of like summoning the butler. That’s you. You’re staff now.

The more time you spend around dogs, the more you start to wonder who is really the one doing the training. Many dogs are really quite smart and observant, just like Marshall. They know what they want, and they are crafty enough to figure out how to get it done.

One of the best things about having a canine companion isn’t all the unconditional love and cuddles they offer, although that’s pretty great too. It’s growing together and teaching each other new tricks. Learning all about how their little doggy brain works, and using that knowledge to be a better dog parent to them. A dog’s whole mission in life is to please us and to learn how we work. By returning the favor, a whole new world opens up to us in which we can bond with our furry one even more. Maybe one day they’ll even surprise you with a viral video.
