Dumbarton Artist’s Work to Be Stored on Moon in Unique Out-Of-This-World Project
A talented artist from Dumbarton, Lewis Deeney, is set to have his work launched into space and stored on the moon as part of a groundbreaking project. Lewis is thrilled to be part of the Lunar Codex initiative, consisting of four time capsules filled with digital versions of art from Earth. The project includes the work of 30,000 artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians from 157 countries, aiming to create a lasting record of human creativity for future generations to appreciate.
Lewis Deeney shared how his involvement in the project unfolded, mentioning his participation in a group show in the USA called Interplay Geometric Abstraction at 33 Contemporary Gallery in West Palm Beach, Florida. The curator of the show introduced them to The Lunar Codex Project, an archive of creatives worldwide having their work digitally preserved and sent to the moon as a time capsule. Lewis expressed his surprise and gratitude for this unexpected opportunity to have his painting included in this remarkable initiative.
The painting Lewis submitted, created in 2021 and titled Awakening II from his Chaos & Order Collection, embodies his unique creative process combining expressive abstraction and geometric structure. Inspired by the mandala, a universal symbol representing interconnected unity and balance, Lewis’s painting seeks to engage viewers through asymmetrical geometric compositions. He hopes that even alien beings, with their potential deep understanding of geometry, may appreciate his non-objective, abstract artwork found on the moon.
Lewis looks forward to the possibility of extraterrestrial discovery of his art and anticipates their interpretation of its universal geometric language. He will showcase his work at an immersive art exhibition in Glasgow that promises a multi-sensory experience, blending paintings, lights, projections, and mirrors to transport visitors into the abstract, geometric world of his creations.
In conclusion, Lewis Deeney’s journey from Dumbarton to the moon symbolizes the boundless reach of human creativity and the universal language of art that transcends earthly boundaries. His participation in the Lunar Codex project not only secures his place in history but also sparks curiosity about the potential connection between art, geometry, and extraterrestrial intelligence. As Lewis’s painting embarks on its celestial voyage, it carries with it the essence of human imagination and the hope of inspiring future generations, both on Earth and beyond.
