Dumfries and Galloway’s top brass win big at competition

Dumfries and Galloway’s top musicians have achieved great success in a recent competition. Annan Town Band scored a major win at the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association Entertainment Contest in Innerleithen. The band impressed the judges with their performance themed “Origins,” which highlighted classical works that influenced modern music, including the 19th Century Russian folk tune, Korobeiniki, known as the theme for the popular video game Tetris. Led by musical director Andrew Warriner, Annan Town Band competed against 14 other bands, showcasing their talent in a short concert. Jamie Bryden, the band’s principal euphonium player, was recognised as the best instrumentalist. In addition to these accolades, Annan Town Band also secured Best Bass Section and Best 2nd Section Band titles. This triumph marked the end of the band’s successful competition season.
