Dumfries woman organisers fundraiser for footballer’s cancer battle

A compassionate woman from Dumfries has taken the initiative to organise a fundraising race night to support ex-Queen of the South youth player, Charlie Watson, in his battle against stage four skin cancer. Paula Whitefield, who is actively involved in preparing meals for Queens’ corporate hospitality and runs the Palmerston pie stall on match days, has arranged the event to show her support for the nineteen-year-old midfielder from Threave Rovers.

Having known Charlie from his time as a youth player at the club, Paula was deeply moved by his situation and felt compelled to do something to assist him. The race night is set to take place at The Arena on November 15, with the aim of gathering at least 100 people to raise funds for Charlie’s cancer battle. The club has also lent their support by helping to publicise the event on social media.

The organisers have ensured that the race night will be an enjoyable and engaging affair, with all ticket sales contributing to the fundraising efforts. Attendees can look forward to a raffle with various prizes, as well as food provided for all guests. The community response to the event has been positive, with many showing their solidarity and willingness to assist Charlie in his time of need.

Despite his health challenges, Charlie has continued to display resilience and determination on the field, exemplifying his strong spirit and character. His teammates and manager speak highly of him, describing him as a vital presence both on and off the pitch. The race night not only aims to raise funds but also to show Charlie that he has the unwavering support of his community during this challenging period.

As the event draws near, the anticipation and support for Charlie Watson continues to grow, demonstrating the power of unity and compassion in times of adversity. Paula Whitefield’s efforts are a shining example of how individuals within a community can come together to make a meaningful impact and support those in need. The race night stands as a testament to the strength of solidarity and the willingness to stand by one another through life’s trials and tribulations.
