Edinburgh Council boss urges staff ‘to speak up when something isn’t right’ after Cammy Day suspended


Edinburgh Council chief executives have urged staff members to speak up if they encounter any wrongdoing following the suspension of Cammy Day, a senior Labour councillor, after allegations of inappropriate behavior were made against him. Cammy Day, who leads a minority administration at Edinburgh City Chambers, was suspended by his party and is currently under police investigation for allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to Ukrainian refugees.

Opposition parties have called for Day’s immediate resignation as the allegations have shocked many at the council. In response to the situation, chief executive Paul Lawrence sent out a message to all staff members, emphasising the importance of speaking up against unacceptable behavior and reminding them of the support available through the council’s Employee Assistance Programme.

The allegations against Day were first reported by the Sunday Mail, where it was detailed that Day had bombarded Ukrainian refugees with inappropriate messages upon their arrival in Edinburgh. The allegations include Day asking explicit questions, sending affectionate emojis, and trying to arrange meetings with the refugees. The council has been approached for comment on the matter.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that they are currently investigating the allegations of inappropriate behavior against Day. The situation has raised concerns and prompted discussions within the local community.
