End in sight for Dumfries dad on 12 day challenge

Dumfries Dad Nears End of 12-Day Challenge to Support Underprivileged Kids this Christmas

Dumfries dad Richie Nicoll is approaching the finale of his 12-day fundraising challenge by climbing Criffel to raise funds for disadvantaged children in the region this Christmas. With every arduous step, carrying around 50lbs in weight from a backpack and an SUV tyre, up the 570m (1,870 ft) high hill over 11 consecutive days, Richie has received generous donations from residents of Dumfries and Galloway and beyond. Today marks the last push of his epic challenge, aiming to generate more donations on his fundraising page.

Richie Nicoll, a popular 46-year-old businessman and chairman of Dumfries Town Board, initially aimed to raise £1,000 to support Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas in Dumfries and Galloway. His goal is to ensure Santa can reach children living in poverty during the festive season. Despite facing extreme weather conditions such as 70-80 mph winds, deep fog, snow, and freezing temperatures, Richie has surpassed his target, collecting over £2,000 in donations before the final day.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support and funds raised, Richie, a father of two and husband to Vicki – a lead nurse at Dumfries and Galloway NHS, humbly thanked everyone for their generosity. He emphasized the importance of every donation and its direct impact on buying gifts for disadvantaged children in the local area. Throughout his challenge, Richie has been joined by various supporters, including Paul Kirk, Paul Watson, Jenni Nicoll, Skye Copland, Dumfries Saints u14’s, and his brother Chris Nicoll.

Richie Nicoll is no stranger to physical challenges for a good cause, having previously taken on the 3 Peaks Challenge in 2023, carrying a large SUV tyre up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon to raise funds for Cash For Kids locally. Today marks the culmination of his 12-day journey up Criffel, symbolising his commitment to supporting underprivileged children in the region during the holiday season.

In summary, Richie Nicoll’s unwavering dedication to raising funds for underprivileged children through his challenging Criffel climb serves as an inspiring example of community spirit and altruism. His resolute efforts in adverse conditions exemplify the power of grassroots initiatives in making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
