Erskine nurses honoured with prestigious Queen’s Nurse Award

Erskine Nurses Awarded Queen’s Nurse Accolade

Erskine Veterans Charity nurses, Ashley Kvasiliene and Kim Barron, have been recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Nurse Award. Bestowed by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS), this honour celebrates their exceptional dedication to community nursing and the outstanding care they provide to veterans at Erskine, Scotland’s leading veterans charity.

Kim Barron, an advanced nurse practitioner at the Erskine home in Bishopton, and Ashley Kvasiliene, the house manager at Erskine’s home in Edinburgh, were chosen to take part in a rigorous nine-month development programme organised by QNIS. Upon successful completion of the programme, both nurses were conferred with the Queen’s Nurse title at a recent ceremony held at the Grassmarket community project in Edinburgh.

The Queen’s Nurse title has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century, when specially trained district nurses delivered vital care to vulnerable communities. QNIS revived the Queen’s Nurse programme to honour modern community nurses who embody these high standards and care traditions. This year, 21 community nurses participated in the intensive programme, which included residential workshops, online sessions, and individual coaching to enhance their skills.

Ashley’s project focused on workforce wellbeing, while Kim’s centred on leadership and development – essential aspects of their roles at Erskine, elevating the quality of care provided to veterans and supporting their colleagues. Derek Barron, Erskine’s director of care, expressed pride in their accomplishment, highlighting their dedication to Erskine’s values of compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to those they care for.

Erskine Veterans Charity offers nursing, residential, and dementia care in homes across Scotland, including Bishopton.

In summary, the article highlights the commendable achievement of Ashley Kvasiliene and Kim Barron in receiving the Queen’s Nurse Award for their exceptional commitment to community nursing at Erskine Veterans Charity. The recognition not only celebrates their dedication but also underscores the high standards of care provided to Scotland’s veterans. Their projects focusing on workforce wellbeing and leadership demonstrate their continuous efforts to enhance care quality and support their colleagues. The Queen’s Nurse title serves as a testament to their hard work and dedication in delivering top-notch healthcare.
