Everything you need to know about bin collections in Stirling over the festive period

Stirling Council has revealed the adjustments to bin collections that will be in place over the festive period, urging residents to recycle as much as possible. Bin collections in Stirling will not take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, or January 2. Residents can check the council’s online postcode finder for their new collection dates for grey and green bins. To accommodate the changes and prioritize grey and green bin collections, there will be no brown or blue bin collections from December 23 to December 29 and December 30 to January 5. Brown bin collections will resume from January 6, with blue bin collections recommencing on January 27.

Residents are encouraged to ‘wash and squash’ items to maximize space in blue bins. Excess waste can be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres at Lower Polmaise, Balfron, and Callander. The Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and January 2, with access only granted by booking. Commercial waste collections will also have temporary adjustments over the festive period, with affected customers receiving individual letters.

Convener of the Environment, Transport and Net Zero committee, Cllr Jen Preston, emphasized the importance of recycling during a time when waste generation is at its peak. She thanked residents for their understanding of the temporary changes and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Standard paper, wrapping paper, and gift cards should be placed in the green recycling bin, while items containing foil, glitter, ribbons, or felt coatings should go in the grey bin.

Real Christmas trees can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centres or chopped up and placed in the brown bin with a valid garden waste permit. The council advises checking their website for festive bin collections and Recycling Centre opening times. Residents are reminded to recycle responsibly and make use of the available recycling facilities during the festive season.

In conclusion, Stirling Council has outlined the adjustments to bin collections during the festive period to accommodate the holidays. Residents are urged to recycle as much as possible, follow guidelines for waste disposal, and utilize the Recycling Centres for excess waste. By working together to recycle efficiently, the community can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment during the festive season.
