Everything you need to know about Dumfries and Galloway bin collections over Christmas

The upcoming Christmas period will bring changes to the bin collections in Dumfries and Galloway. Dumfries and Galloway Council has announced that there will be no bin collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, or January 2. Residents whose bins are usually emptied on a Wednesday, including Christmas and New Year’s Day this year, are advised to put their bins out for collection on the following Saturdays, which fall on December 28 and January 4. Similarly, bins normally emptied on a Thursday, covering Boxing Day and January 2, should be put out on the Saturdays following, which are December 29 and January 5.

The council spokesperson highlighted that waste collection teams and staff are prepared to work overtime to make alternative collection arrangements during this festive period. Challenges such as staff sickness and inclement weather can impact the service delivery, but efforts will be made to ensure minimal disruption. Any changes to the scheduled collections will be communicated clearly on the council’s service status webpage, along with information on alternative arrangements where possible.
