Falkirk beer hall Rock Bottom gets licence in hope of Christmas opening

**Falkirk Beer Hall ‘Rock Bottom’ Granted Licence for Christmas Opening**
A new craft beer taproom, Rock Bottom, in Falkirk is set to open soon pending completion of outstanding work and receipt of a building warrant. Located in Unit 5, The Arcade, Callendar Riggs, in the town’s old bus station, the beer hall is the brainchild of company director Andrej Rafaj. Rafaj appealed to Falkirk Council’s licensing board for an occasional licence, emphasizing the importance of opening before Christmas to ensure the business’s survival during the traditionally low sales period in January.
Andrej Rafaj, owner of the award-winning Not That California Brewing Company, aims to transform the venue into a vibrant community beer hall hosting various events such as concerts, comedy shows, theatre performances, and open mic nights. Despite facing delays in the project, Rafaj successfully crowdfunded nearly £12,000 within 17 days in July to support the venture.
While some work on the premises was carried out without approval, Falkirk Council officers are awaiting additional information for the project to proceed smoothly. The board expressed overall support for the application, with Provost Robert Bissett commending the initiative for repurposing an unused space into a new business.
The new venue, accommodating up to 130 people initially, will primarily offer Scottish craft beers. Food delivery or consumption from a local restaurant will be permitted on the premises. Rock Bottom will operate from noon to midnight, with off-sales available from noon to 10 pm daily. Children will not be allowed on the premises initially, although plans to host children’s shows in the future are in the pipeline.
The licensing application, subject to certain conditions, was unanimously approved by the board, with Provost Bissett extending well wishes to the business. For more updates on Falkirk news, sign up for the newsletter.
