Councillor Buchanan has urged Scottish Canals and Falkirk Council to take action promptly to address the safety risks posed by the unprotected roadside. He emphasised the urgency, stating, “There is now a serious risk to public safety with the ongoing works along the Allandale Road. Cutting back trees and demolishing the old wire fence in places has left the area as a disaster waiting to happen.” Highlighting the constant traffic flow of large lorries, school buses, and other vehicles on the road, especially during dark nights and wintry conditions, he stressed the critical need for a protective barrier.

The proximity of the road to the Forth & Clyde Canal and the remains of the Antonine Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, further underscores the significance of ensuring safety measures are in place. Councillor Buchanan has received concerns from constituents, particularly regarding the heightened risks in winter months. Responding to the situation, a spokesperson for Scottish Canals confirmed that they were instructed by Falkirk Council to clear vegetation obstructing the carriageway, and plans are underway to reinstate a fence along the area.
