Festive drive is on for SSPCA as charity seeks donations for dogs and cats over Christmas

The Scottish SPCA (SSPCA) is launching a festive donation drive at their rescue centres across the country to support dogs and cats during the Christmas season. The charity is appealing to the public to contribute items such as dog and cat food to ensure that the animals in their care are well-fed and content as they await adoption.

Jennie Macdonald, Head of Rehoming, Fostering, and Community Engagement at SSPCA, highlighted the increased demand the centres are facing this Christmas, with many operating at full capacity. She emphasised the importance of maintaining a consistent diet for the animals, especially those with sensitive stomachs, by requesting specific brands of food. Residents in Dumbarton are encouraged to donate items to the SSPCA’s Milton base to support the furry residents during the festive period.

To facilitate donations, the SSPCA has provided an Amazon wishlist for each centre, enabling supporters to purchase items directly through Amazon or from other retailers offering delivery. Donations can be made in person at the centres between 1pm and 4pm, with Macdonald expressing gratitude for any contributions received. The charity acknowledges the challenging times faced by many but emphasizes the significance of these donations for the animals in their care.

Among the animals currently seeking a forever home are Nala and Mabel, two affectionate and playful companions residing at the SSPCA Dunbartonshire centre for over 27 days. The bonded pair enjoys walks, playtime, and naps together, making them ideal for a household where they can receive ample attention and love. Individuals interested in adopting Nala, Mabel, or any other animals can find more information on the SSPCA website.

In a heartwarming appeal, the SSPCA’s initiative underscores the spirit of giving and compassion towards animals in need during the festive season. Through the support of the community, the charity aims to provide a warm and loving environment for dogs and cats awaiting their forever homes.
