Firefighter ‘had sex with girl, 13, in his car after meeting her at school open day’

A firefighter is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met at a school open day. Scott Cameron, a Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service officer, is accused of engaging in sexual activity with the teenager after exchanging messages with her where he asked for naked pictures. It is claimed that he arranged to meet her in the woods and eventually had sex with her in his car. Cameron maintains that he believed the girl was over 16 but admits to the sexual activity.

The court heard that Cameron first met the girl during a school open day when she was 13 years old. He allegedly obtained her phone number, pretended to be someone else in their messages, and requested increasingly explicit photographs from her. Despite the girl informing Cameron of her age, their meetings continued, leading to the sexual encounter in his car. The prosecution described Cameron as an abuser and manipulator who took advantage of the young girl’s naivety.

Cameron denied the allegations during police interviews, claiming he was unaware of the girl’s age and portraying her as obsessive and harassing him. However, forensic analysis of his iPhone revealed nude photographs of the complainant, contradicting his statements. The prosecution argued that Cameron made deliberate choices to exploit the girl’s vulnerability and age for his own gratification.

The trial, presided over by Judge David Swinnerton, is ongoing, with Cameron denying a total of 11 sexual offences. The prosecution emphasised the importance of determining whether Cameron reasonably believed the girl was of legal age at the time of their interactions. The court proceedings are expected to last around a week as both sides present their evidence and arguments.

In summary, the case involving firefighter Scott Cameron highlights the serious allegations of child sexual abuse and exploitation. The prosecution has presented evidence suggesting a pattern of predatory behaviour by Cameron towards a vulnerable young girl. As the trial unfolds, the court will need to assess the credibility of the testimonies and evidence provided to reach a just verdict in this disturbing case.
