New Football Kit Sponsorship for West Lothian Team

A West Lothian football team, the Vennie United Community FC Under 12s in Knightsridge, has received its first-ever fully branded strips and boots thanks to a sponsorship from the Centre Livingston. The competition to sponsor a local club and provide full kits was won by the newly registered team, following the success of last year’s winners, the Mid Calder Colts 2014s.

The Centre Livingston’s ‘Support in the Community’ initiative aims to assist sports clubs, charities, and social enterprises in the local area by raising awareness, funds, and offering sponsorship opportunities. The Vennie’s application stood out due to its focus on providing free sports opportunities for children in the region, addressing a gap in accessible sports programmes.

The sponsorship application was led by SFA qualified sports coach Jen McCusker, who conducted research on the lack of free sports options for children while studying at West Lothian College. Jen’s efforts were recognised with awards and accolades, including being named ‘Student of the Year’ and a finalist in the national YouthLink Scotland Awards.

The Vennie’s football programme, spearheaded by Jen, offers coaching to young boys and girls who may not have access to such opportunities elsewhere due to financial constraints or limited spaces. The team’s talent has led to further development and formal registration as the Vennie United Community Football Club by the SFA.

Training sessions led by Jen and the coaches from ‘Play On West Lothian’ are held twice a week, with friendly games against other local teams underway.
