Former Falkirk nightclub gets green light to become private functions venue

Former Falkirk Nightclub to Transform into Private Functions Venue

A former nightclub in Falkirk has received approval to be revamped into a private functions venue, exclusively hosting events like weddings and offering conference facilities. The site, previously known as Depot and formerly as Martell and Temple, located at 1 Burnbank Road, Falkirk, underwent changes to its license approved by Falkirk Council’s licensing board. Members of the board visited the premises earlier in the month and witnessed the alterations firsthand, including a large function hall that can be divided into two smaller halls.

The board decided that conditions previously imposed on the nightclub were no longer necessary and granted permission for the venue to operate without certain restrictions, such as the dispersal policy aimed at reducing disorder and public nuisance caused by patrons leaving the premises. Operating hours for the new functions venue will be from 10 am to midnight every day, except for Fridays and Saturdays when it can stay open until 1 am. The updated license also allows for children and young people to attend pre-booked functions and for young people to work in serving food.

Owner Alan Milliken outlined that the venue will only be accessible for pre-booked occasions, like weddings, anniversaries, and birthday parties, catering to families. Milliken emphasised that while children are welcome at events, there are no plans to host functions targeting children. He stated, “Traditionally it was a nightclub, it’s going to be totally different now. Everything will be pre-booked—you can’t walk in and buy a drink, you can’t walk in and buy a carryout. Every single thing will be pre-booked.” Additionally, the venue will offer conference facilities to its clientele.

The board unanimously approved the license changes, with Provost Robert Bissett expressing enthusiasm for the new direction the venue is taking. “It’s going to be a different venue coming to Falkirk, and it’s good to see it and to hear the business’ plans for the future,” he remarked.

In summary, the former nightclub in Falkirk is undergoing a transformation to become a private functions venue that will focus on hosting exclusive events like weddings and offer conference facilities. The changes to the venue’s license allow for extended operating hours and the inclusion of children and young people at pre-booked functions, with an emphasis on family-oriented events. Provost Robert Bissett and other members of the licensing board welcomed the new direction of the venue, appreciating the plans for its future as a unique events space in Falkirk.
