Fundraiser towards surgery for Scots stuntman injured in horror fall hits £25k target after support from Hollywood stars

A fundraiser aiming to collect £25,000 for Scottish Hollywood stuntman Charlie Allan, who sustained a severe leg injury in a fall, has successfully reached its target with the support of several notable celebrities. Charlie Allan, aged 61, known for his work in coordinating battle scenes for major productions, suffered a 15-foot fall while constructing a home gym in Dumfries. The accident left him unable to walk more than a few feet or carry out daily tasks due to the formation of two blood clots behind his left knee.
Following the incident, a crowdfunding campaign was launched to raise funds for crucial surgery abroad to address the damage caused by the fall. The initiative caught the attention of prominent figures such as Outlander star Sam Heughan and Hollywood actor Russell Crowe, both of whom made generous donations. Additionally, Robert and Terri Irwin, the family of the late Steve Irwin, have also contributed to the cause. The fundraiser surpassed its £25,000 goal, with the total amount raised currently standing at £26,000.
Charlie Allan is the CEO of the Clanranald Trust, a charity that promotes Scottish culture and history through battle re-enactments at Duncarron Medieval Village. Having worked on various film and TV projects, including collaborations with Russell Crowe on the sets of Gladiator and Robin Hood, Charlie has earned recognition in the entertainment industry. The injury occurred while he was constructing access to his home gym, resulting in ligament tears and the subsequent development of a blood clot due to self-administered anti-inflammatory medication.
Despite initial attempts to alleviate the pain and resume normal activities, Charlie’s condition worsened, leading to severe complications. He was eventually hospitalized, where doctors recommended an Endovascular Thrombectomy procedure not available through the NHS, costing £25,000. To undergo the treatment in Hungary or Germany, Charlie relied on the success of the fundraiser.
The Clanranald Trust has provided expertise for numerous blockbuster productions, participating in battle scenes for Outlander, Gladiator, and other renowned films. The overwhelming support received from the public and celebrities alike demonstrates the industry’s solidarity towards Charlie Allan’s recovery and resilience in the face of adversity.
In conclusion, the successful fundraising campaign highlights the power of community and celebrity support in aiding individuals facing challenging circumstances. The generosity shown towards Charlie Allan reflects the compassion and unity within the entertainment industry and beyond, emphasising the importance of standing together in times of need.
