Gatehouse SWI members entertained by local quilter Elaine Milven at their latest meeting

Gatehouse SWI members were treated to an entertaining presentation by local quilter Elaine Milven at their most recent meeting. The gathering, which also included the AGM, was hosted by President Margaret, who welcomed everyone before introducing Elaine. Elaine, a member of both the Quilters of Shambellie House and Machars Quilters, shared insights into her family background, membership at Port William SWI, and her past career as a retired police officer.
Elaine showcased her exquisite quilts, some of which are entered into national and international competitions, while others are designed for display in hospitals and for various community projects. Members had the opportunity to admire Elaine’s intricate work, with some quilts taking years to complete. She also invited members to attend a quilt exhibition at Shambellie House next year. Following Elaine’s presentation, President Margaret addressed the AGM business, expressing gratitude to committee members and organising upcoming events such as Christmas lunch and quizzes.
The meeting also saw the announcement of competition results, with members showcasing their talents in categories such as mince pies, patchwork articles, and flowers of the month. The winners were congratulated, with prizes distributed to the deserving recipients. As the evening concluded, Margaret thanked Elaine for her engaging talk and extended appreciation to Catherine and Nancy for providing refreshments.
