Get set for festive cheer as South Lanarkshire Christmas switch-ons are revealed

South Lanarkshire is gearing up for the festive season as Christmas switch-on events are announced across the region. The Christmas countdown kicks off in Lanark on Saturday, November 16, with the lights set to sparkle at 5pm. East Kilbride Village will follow suit on Sunday, November 17, with its switch-on also at 5pm. The festive spirit continues with Rutherglen’s lights going on at 4.30pm on Saturday, November 23. Hamilton’s Quarry Street will be illuminated on the same day, featuring a full day of activities from 10am to 5.30pm, including a market, Santa’s visit, and a Christmas parade at 2.30pm.
Cambuslang will light up on Sunday, November 24, at 4.30pm, while Carluke’s Christmas lights will shine bright at 5pm on Saturday, November 30. The entertainment lineup includes MacBusted tribute performances at various locations and The MacDonald Bros at Carluke. Each event will feature Soundsational Choir, street entertainers, and kids’ characters for families to enjoy. The festivities will be hosted by Des Clarke from Heart FM, except for the East Kilbride event which will be hosted by Ali Wright from Clyde 1. Provost Margaret Cooper or Depute Provost Bert Thomson will be joined by special guests for the grand light switch-on ceremonies.
