Gregg Wallace’s ghostwritter makes new claims over sexual harassment

MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace has faced new allegations of sexual harassment from his ghostwriter Shannon Kyle, as reported on Newsnight. More than a dozen individuals have come forward, accusing the TV personality of making sexual remarks, inappropriate jokes, and groping. Wallace has vehemently denied these allegations through his legal team, stating that he does not engage in sexually harassing behaviour.

Amid the controversy, Shannon Kyle, who worked as Wallace’s ghostwriter for his 2012 autobiography “Life On A Plate,” has spoken out about her experiences with Wallace. During their collaboration, Kyle claimed that Wallace engaged in inappropriate behaviour such as answering the door in a towel and dropping it, making explicit sexual remarks, and inappropriate advances. She alleged instances where Wallace touched her inappropriately during interviews and meetings, including in a sports car and a hotel car park. Kyle described Wallace’s behaviour as “predatory” and “revolting.”

Detailing several incidents, Kyle mentioned Wallace discussing explicit details of his sex life, making lewd comments, and touching her without consent. She recalled a meeting at his home where he greeted her in a towel, which he later dropped, claiming his trousers were behind a cushion she was sitting on. She also alleged that Wallace made obscene suggestions during interviews, such as proposing to smear food on his genitals. Kyle expressed feeling vulnerable and intimidated due to being alone with Wallace and fearing repercussions for breaking a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) emphasising loyalty and confidentiality.

In response to the allegations, Wallace denied the claims of sexual misconduct, with his lawyers refuting any inappropriate behaviour towards Kyle. Following the accusations, Wallace announced he would be stepping away from his role on MasterChef. In a video shared on Instagram, he apologised for previous remarks and expressed intentions to take a break while an external investigation is conducted. Banijay UK, the production company behind MasterChef, confirmed an independent review into historical misconduct allegations involving Wallace.

The BBC has also issued a statement reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour and pledged support for the investigation. Kyle stated that the allegations against Wallace were long overdue and encouraged others to speak out against such behaviour. She hoped that sharing her experiences would hold Wallace accountable for his actions.
