Hamilton Advertiser Launches Toy Appeal for 2024

The Hamilton Advertiser toy appeal for 2024 has officially kicked off, with donations already pouring in from generous local residents to ensure a joyous Christmas for children in the area. Collection points have been set up across town, such as the Salvation Army warehouse at New Park Street and the local Asda branch, where gifts are being gathered to be distributed in time for the festive season.

Running for over a decade now, the appeal has garnered thousands of gifts from compassionate community members, with a remarkable 1300 gifts donated just last year. The call for support this year is no different, urging donations of new, unwrapped gifts for children aged from birth to 18. These donations will be distributed with the help of South Lanarkshire Council’s social workers, local charities, and other benevolent causes.

From toys, dolls, and games for younger children to cosmetics, handbags, and gift vouchers for older teens, the appeal welcomes a wide range of presents to bring smiles to youngsters’ faces. The deadline for donations is set for Monday, December 9, at the Salvation Army hall in Hamilton, where volunteers will sort the items by age group for distribution.

The Salvation Army captain, Wendy Leisk, highlighted the overwhelming support received each year, with volunteers eagerly participating in the sorting process, turning their premises into a hub of generosity during the festive period. Toy appeal co-ordinator, Leona Greenan, emphasised the team’s commitment to ensuring that economic challenges do not dampen children’s Christmas spirit this year.

In addition to traditional donations, contributions can also be made at Mecca bingo and Rocca restaurant in Hamilton, hosting fundraisers to boost the appeal. The event is not only about gifts but also about fostering a sense of community spirit and coming together to spread joy during the holiday season.

In conclusion, the Hamilton Advertiser toy appeal serves as a heartwarming tradition that unites the local community in bringing hope and happiness to children in need. With the ongoing support and generosity of residents, the appeal continues to make a meaningful difference in countless young lives each Christmas.
