Hamilton teenager Daniel named Judo Scotland’s young volunteer of the year

Hamilton teenager, Daniel, has been recognised as Judo Scotland’s young volunteer of the year. At just 13 years old, Daniel has been named for his exceptional dedication in assisting judo players with disabilities and additional support needs at Hamilton judo club. He has been a valuable member of the club for six years and actively contributes to inclusive sporting sessions for both juniors and adults.
Daniel’s commitment to the sport goes beyond coaching as he has completed various training courses to enhance his skills in developing inclusive sporting programs. Despite his sight loss condition, nystagmus, Daniel has achieved success in judo competitions, including winning bronze at the British schools’ visually impaired championship.
Described as having a caring nature, Daniel is a favourite among the children at the club, who eagerly anticipate his help during sessions. Judo Scotland commended his remarkable dedication and contribution to the judo community. He was presented with the young volunteer of the year award at a training session by Judo Scotland club development officer Laura Kirkhouse.
Daniel’s involvement extends beyond his local club as he collaborates with Judo Scotland disability development officer Stephen Somerville and promotes the sport through various initiatives. He is passionate about expanding his knowledge of working with children with disabilities and aims to continue competing and improving in judo.
