As the boat began to take in water and eventually capsized, Jude, his father, and the rest of the passengers found themselves fighting for their lives in the rough waters. In a moment of sheer courage and quick thinking, Prasong ordered his son to crawl inside a water cooler for safety.

Jude recounted how he and his father clung to the cooler in a desperate bid to stay afloat. However, realizing that only one of them could make it to shore, Prasong selflessly let go of the cooler, ensuring that his son had a chance at survival. Despite the rescue efforts to find Prasong in the following days, he tragically did not make it.

After spending hours drifting in the water inside the cooler, Jude eventually washed ashore. Cold, exhausted, and unsure of his whereabouts, the brave teenager managed to hike to a nearby campsite where he sought help by asking them to call 911. While Jude’s safe return brought relief to his remaining family members, they are also mourning the loss of their loved ones who did not survive the ordeal.

The family held a vigil at Bodega Bay to honour the memories of those who perished and those who are still missing. Jude’s brother, 17-year-old Johnny, was found deceased, while the other missing passengers are presumed to have lost their lives.
