Hero neighbour drags woman out of Scots home as flames tear through building

A heroic neighbour saved a woman’s life by dragging her out of her home in Tranent, Scotland, as flames engulfed the building. Tricia Hayes was asleep when the fire broke out on a Saturday in November. The neighbour across the street spotted the blaze, rushed to the scene, and managed to pull Tricia out of bed, wearing only her pyjamas, dressing gown, and slippers.

The two-storey house, made of wood, quickly succumbed to the fire, spreading to the roof before the fire service arrived. Despite the loss of her home, Tricia, grateful to be alive, praised her neighbour’s quick actions which prevented a potentially tragic outcome. She recounted the harrowing experience, highlighting the neighbour’s bravery and selflessness in the face of danger.

Tricia revealed that the fire likely started near her second-hand fridge freezer; a small detail she overlooked, but one that led to the devastating incident. Despite not having home insurance, Tricia remains optimistic and appreciative of the support from her neighbours and the local community. Their kindness, offers of assistance, and fundraising efforts have given her hope for rebuilding her life.

In the midst of tragedy, Tricia found comfort in the generosity and compassion of those around her, proving that even in the face of adversity, community spirit shines bright. With plans to rebuild and a supportive network behind her, Tricia remains resilient and grateful for each helping hand extended to her in her time of need. The heroism displayed by her neighbour and the kindness of strangers have not only saved her life but also instilled in her a renewed faith in humanity.
