H&M cuts 150 jobs at Edinburgh call centre as office set to close next year

H&M announced significant job cuts at its Edinburgh call centre, with 150 employees facing layoffs as the office is set to close next year. The closure of the Waverley Gate office was proposed due to the expiration of the lease in 2025, attributed to factors such as increased competition, evolving customer behaviours, and rising operational costs. Employees were given a two weeks’ notice of their dismissal, with those entitled to more notice to be paid in lieu.
Consultations with employees took place between September and November, during which the company managed to reduce several job losses by offering alternative roles, helping find other employment opportunities, or facilitating voluntary departures. Operations at the call centre will cease on December 14, leading to the complete closure of the site by March 2025.
