Keir Starmer praises Lanarkshire dad with MND for ‘bravery and compassion’

Keir Starmer has commended a father from Lanarkshire who is living with motor neurone disease (MND) for his courage and compassion. Mark Somerville, residing in Uddingston, received the heartbreaking MND diagnosis in October last year after experiencing symptoms in his left arm.

The 43-year-old, a father of four, disclosed in July that he has lost function in both his hands and has urged the Scottish Government to advocate for a cure, acknowledging the urgency of the situation. Following his diagnosis, Somerville established the Mark Somerville Foundation to assist others facing MND along with their families.

During Prime Minister’s Questions, Labour MP for Coatbridge and Bellshill, Frank McNally, raised Somerville’s case to Keir Starmer.
